Kaneka has three main supply chain goals – cost effectiveness,
staying lean and green and on-time deliveries to the end customer.

1. Cost-effectiveness
For companies like Kaneka, it is challenging to balance freight’s cost-effectiveness when dealing with lightweight and loose products, for example, expanded polypropylene. “Competitive pricing towards end customers is everything. Therefore, we try to provide our customers with competitive pricing. Consequently, one of our targets is to keep the cost per weight or volume as low as possible.”

2. Lean and green
Combining road, rail, and short sea is the most optimal concept in the market, with a growing need for capacity and sustainable solutions. Using rail transport as much as possible is essential to reaching the EU’s sustainable and future-proof transportation goals.

3. On-time delivery
Executing on-time deliveries within certain industry branches, such as the chemical or automotive business, is crucial

How Ewals Cargo Care supports the solution?

1. Cost-effectiveness
More than just a standard transport

“Megahuckepack XLS trailers resulted in significantly larger volumes of transport. The Mega trailer already allows for 10% more loading capacity. In addition, thanks to the silo delivery and using plastic inline together with the XLS system, we could load almost the complete truck in full from bottom to top with our product. In summary, Megahuckepack XLS trailers allowed around a 20% increase with each delivery.”

The Megahuckepack XLS trailer is a proven safe and efficient solution for transporting regular cargo, mainly cargo that tends to bulge. This trailer has reinforced and easily modified side curtains with no loose parts, guaranteeing that the maximum width is no longer exceeded.

“ECC XLS trailers are ideally in line with our needs, helping us to be price competitive. We can successfully transport our products to customers in the South of Europe, Spain, Italy and Germany.”

Bulging cargo will no longer be a bump in a (rail)road. Trailers with a dent or bump in the tilt can be rejected by rail operators, as they can create rail traffic. These practices now belong to the past! The UIC (International Union of railway) has embraced trailer constructions (like Ewals Cargo Care’s Mega Huckepack XLS trailer) that are equipped for loads having the tendency to settle and bulge within the IRS (International Railway Solutions) framework. Such loads can safely lean against the sides of the trailer without risking the trailer to bulge and expand past its maximum allowed total width.

2. Lean and green
Decarbonizing the transport

While using the multimodal solution, companies can benefit from CO₂ reduction of rail transport. On lanes, which are aligned with rail connections, the CO₂ reduction can reach up to 60% compared to the traditional road transport.

“The additional 20% of delivery volume also supports our lean and green strategy as we make fewer transport movements to reach the same volumes. This positively impacts our CO₂ reduction. Further, we can gain additional benefits while transporting to Spain thanks to the rail connection.”

3. On-time deliveries
Being a trusted partner

Multimodal transport is not some cases even faster than road transport. But that is not always the case. This is why Ewals Cargo Care strives to be a reliable partner. Our multimodal transport ensures on-time delivery and flexibility and provides alternative connections whenever necessary. For example, the fast freight service by double crewed road transport deserves the ‘fast” in the title.

“At Kaneka, we are supplying most of the time out of stock. Together we can ensure that the delivery times are met. Therefore, there is no issue with using a longer transit time.”

Joint focus on a solid partnership

Ewals Cargo Care started over 100 years as a family-owned company. Nowadays, led by 3rd generation, it remains a family company with a strong focus on long-term partnerships and co-creative value.Kaneka, a Japanese company with over 60 years of tradition, stands for similar values and aims to build a long-term cooperation. It is no secret that in each relationship, communication is essential.

“The daily communication with Ewals is going very well, as
well as quarterly follow-ups.''

To maintain a high quality, Kaneka applies a performance system to all suppliers. It includes customer satisfaction, such as on-time deliveries. It also measures internal satisfaction, like the satisfaction of Kaneka’s employees with daily support, service, communication, and reaction times. ECC scores above 95% on this rating each year.

“A long-term partnership is essential for us. We
want to develop and grow together, but also reach
our sustainability and cost-efficiency goals. That’s
why Ewals Cargo Care is the right partner for us
with its multimodal network.''
